New patients need to firstly decide what it is they want help with and which ‘Tier’ of therapist they wish to use. The next stage is to contact Cornerstone by mail or phone to complete the registration process and book in an initial therapy session.
In-person sessions can be arranged at any of their Colorado offices or alternatively online therapy is available – payment must be made in advance.
The counseling offered by Cornerstone is faith based which means that therapists will make observations and suggestions based on Christian principles and may refer to the biblical texts extensively.
It is very important to note that Cornerstone has a faith based ethics policy on a number of issues such as divorce, sexual preference and sexual conduct. This is based on what most modern secular therapists would call ‘old fashioned’ ideas which may even be harmful in some cases. For example, members of the LGBTQ+ community may be told by a therapist that their lifestyle is ‘sinful’ and to practice abstinence or celibacy.
If your therapist thinks you may need psychiatric help, medication or to speak to a secular therapist then they may refer you elsewhere.
The Cornerstone Counseling business model operates on a pay per session basis. You pay in advance for each appointment and there is no subscription or “package” available. The fees range depending on the qualification and experience “tier” of the therapist.
Tier 1: $58 per session. Sessions with counseling students or provisionally licensed professionals.
Tier 2: $100 per session. Sessions with provisionally licensed professionals.
Tier 3: $121 per session. Sessions with licensed professionals
Tier 4: $153 per session Sessions with licensed professionals who have advanced certifications and/or at least 5,000 clinical hours practice.
Tier 5: $184 per session. Sessions with licensed professionals who have advanced certifications and at last 10,000 clinical hours practice.
Cornerstone Counseling also offers an affordability plan for those who are not able to pay for therapy at this time.
With over 50 licensed therapists, Cornerstone Counseling are able to help with a range of different conditions including;
The Cornerstone Counseling website offers a full range of the issues which they treat. This includes Relationship and couples therapy as well.
As they only offer faith based counseling, anybody dealing with LGBTQ+ issues or marital breakdown, may wish to seek guidance and therapy elsewhere. We recommend checking our Pride Counseling review or our guide for the best marriage counseling online.
Also bear in mind that Cornerstone does not offer psychiatry and cannot prescribe medication. If you are in crisis or have a severe mental health condition then you should seek treatment elsewhere.
No, they are not. Faitful Counseling has more therapists, a mobile app and is cheaper.
The company offers faith based therapy but is fully HIPAA compliant and all therapists are fully licensed in state. They mix biblical teachings with modern therapy techniques allowing them to offer patients the best of both traditions.
Cornerstones therapists offer modern therapy techniques such as CBT, play therapy and brain spotting. They are however not able to offer psychiatry or prescribe medication.
Users pay for each session up front using their bank or credit card. If you wish to claim the cost back from your insurance policy then they will issue a receipt to facilitate this. They have also recently started working with some Medicaid covered clients.
Yes. Whilst Cornerstone allows patients to look over all of the various therapists profiles and choose their own. However, note that the choice of therapist will be limited by which payment tier you choose.
One of the central tenets of the Christian faith is to help whoever is in need, and all are therefore welcome. Furthermore, Cornerstone are actually quite experienced in dealing with non-believers and lapses believers during marital and family therapy settings. However, even though Cornerstone will offer therapy to non-believers, there are simply more suitable providers out there for those who are not specifically looking for faith based therapy.
There are now quite a few Christian, faith orientated therapy providers established in the US and one of the best regarded ones is Faithful counseling.
Like Cornerstone, Faithful also offers faith oriented counseling from fully qualified, licensed therapists. However Faithful operates a more inclusive and modern policy with regards to issues such as divorce and LGBTQ+ matters.
Faithful are a subsidiary of the teletherapy giant BetterHelp and the therapists they engage with are subjected to a rigorous vetting process.
Like their parent company, Faithful Counseling also offer subscription packages ranging from $50 – $80 per week meaning that they may well prove to be a much more cost effective option for those seeking medium to long term therapy. They are also available to patients nationwide, not just patients who are resident in the state of Colorado.
However unlike Cornerstone, Faithful are not able to facilitate in person sessions. You can read our Faithful Counseling review and see which one you like best.
Overall, we feel that Cornerstone Counseling does fulfil a niche and can offer help and treatment to some patients. If you are looking for faith based counseling, and are happy to pay on a per session basis, then they may well be the answer to your prayers.
They can help with a wide number of issues and offer in person sessions for those who can get to the office and virtual therapy sessions for those who cannot.
However, there are better, more cost effective Christian faith based therapy providers out there such as Faithful Counseling who we previously introduced.
We feel Faithful Counseling has the edge on Cornerstone as they offer a weekly subscription service (ranging from $50 – $80 per week), and as well as offering online therapy sessions, the package also includes a 24/7 messaging and chat support function.
