ReGain counseling is an virtual therapy site which is a part of the BetterHelp group of telehealth services. Unlike its parent platform who offers treatments for a wide variety of mental health issues, Regain focuses entirely on marriage and relationship therapy.
Keeping and maintaining a healthy, happy relationship is a challenge many of us face. Online therapy platforms offer you a chance to work on your relationship together as a couple, in an easy way that doesn’t even require leaving your home. In this ReGain review we’ll try and help you determine if ReGain is indeed the best place for you to get the help you are looking for.
ReGain is part of the BetterHelp therapy group, which is owned by the prominent public company Teladoc (NYSE: TDOC) – one of the fastest growing remote treatment companies in the world which is used by hundreds of thousands of Americans and employs 2,000 people across the nation. That makes ReGain legit and trustworthy.

Signing up to ReGain is completely automated and can be completed in a matter of minutes. First, you fill up a questionnaire describing your demographics, the issues you are hoping to deal with and the type of therapists you’d prefer. Then, the system will automatically match you with a few therapists from which you can choose your preferred one. If you like none of them, you can always ask to see more or simply contact support and ask to choose yourself from a larger pool of available counselors.
Once you have selected your preferred therapist, it usually takes a day or less before they confirm the match and therapy can officially begin. At that point you’ll be prompted to choose your subscription plan and make the first payment. Then, a private chat room will be opened for you and your therapist where you can text them 24/7 and have your weekly live sessions at.
ReGain offers you the choice between private, personal sessions with a psychologist and a joint couple therapy. Some people prefer to vent and deal with relationship issues on their own without having their partner involved. If you do wish to add your partner in at any given time, you can send them an invitation to the platform. They will have to complete the same signup process but will not be required to make any payment for joining in to your sessions.
While we are overall fine with this automated process, it does feel a bit impersonal. Furthermore, we have had instances where the proposed matches clearly didn’t meet our stated requirements (for example being offered only male therapists after specifically requesting for a female) – we never had that happen to us on BetterHelp, which uses the same matching algorithms, so we suspect the reason might be the pool of available therapists is much smaller on ReGain.
ReGain has a fairly straightforward billing scheme without much flexibility to it. That said, you do have a few different options to choose from, and you are able to change your subscription plan at any given time. It’s also worth mentioning that when it comes to couples therapy, ReGain offers the best deals on the market:
On top of these, ReGain also offers a Yearly Subscription for $35 a week, paid in advance for 12 months each time. You will be billed once a year for a total of $1820 (save $108 per month)
As mentioned, while there is no free trial over at ReGain, you can change your subscription plan any time you want. So it makes a lot of sense to start out with the weekly plan for a week or 2 just to see how it feels, then move onto a more long term plan based on your needs. Just don’t forget to make the change – subscriptions will all renew automatically unless you do.
The ReGain platform is entirely focused around relationship and marriage counseling. All therapists on the site are certified and interested in those fields. Psychologists are all required to hold at least a Masters degree in a relevant field, a certificate from their state’s board and a minimum of 3 years and at least 1,000 hours of clinical experience.
ReGain is part of the BetterHelp group which is renowned to have the best vetting process out of all virtual therapy sites. Our experience with the Regain counselors has always been excellent – we have received excellent, professional treatment and the therapists always made us feel safe and comfortable. The treatments offered on ReGain focus on the following:
ReGain is certainly a top contender, and we do believe it is overall the best choice for those seeking help specifically with relationship issues. The platform is safe, easy to use and offers the best prices on the market.
Yes. ReGain is owned by a large reputable company and adheres to strict standards. Their process for accepting new therapists on the platform is the most strict out of all U.S online therapy sites. Moreover, they allow you to stay completely anonymous while using their service - your therapist can only see the nickname you chose and nothing else unless you choose to share it with them.
Sadly, no. You will have to inquire directly with your insurance provider to see if you are eligible or not. While ReGain’s cost is very competitive even without insurance, you might want to read our article about online therapy with insurance first, to see if some other options might work better for you.
Payments are made through credit card, debit card, Paypal or Google Pay.
Once you choose your preferred counselor, it can take anywhere between a few hours and a few days before they confirm the match and you can begin. We found it normally takes roughly 1 day.
ReGain has the most professional and dedicated therapists for dealing with couples and they do so at the most affordable price. The platform is also extremely safe and very easy to use. On the other hand, the software does not support three-way sessions and ReGain does not accept any type of insurance.
While there are still a few issues with ReGain and areas they need to improve upon, we strongly believe it is currently the best choice for couples therapy online. We hope this ReGain review has helped you figure out why we think so, and decide if it is indeed the right choice for you.
As always, we encourage you to read more reviews, especially our guide for online couples therapy where we compare ReGain to all of their competitors.
